Emergency medical dispatchers

Job Summary

The health communication center is:

  • The 5th consecutive accreditation of the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED) center of excellence.
  • The 6th center of excellence in the world and the 1st to obtain it in a language other than English.
  • More than 40% of emergency calls in Quebec.

Being an emergency medical dispatcher means:

  • Using the classification protocols and procedures made available to you, evaluate and sort calls;
  • Work in a highly technological environment;
  • Accompany callers to help provide emergency care required while waiting for emergency resources;
  • Work in constant collaboration with paramedics and/or other emergency partners to respond to the current mission;
  • Assign the appropriate vehicle to the intervention site and, subsequently, direct it to the hospital center that best meets the patient's state of health;
  • Participate in the deployment of emergency vehicles in order to cover the territory as well as possible and thus minimize the response time of ambulance teams

Prerequisites

  • You are calm and clear, despite a high level of stress in a multitasking environment.

You have at least:

  • A high school diploma (DES) or the equivalent from a school recognized by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education;
  • Postsecondary studies in social work, public safety, psychology, intervention or any field related to health and prehospital is an asset;
  • One (1) year of experience in customer service, emergency communications, public safety, transport dispatch or in the health sector;
  • A perfect command of French and English (oral and written);
  • Be available full-time to work day, evening and night shifts for the first three months following hiring and thereafter according to the provisions applicable to the collective labor agreement

Working as an emergency medical dispatcher at Urgences-santé means working in a stimulating professional environment and enjoying many benefits, such as:

A variable salary between $23.37 and $33.78 per hour depending on recognized experience.
Please note that the paid training lasts 75 days. The training will be full-time and offered mainly during the day.

The Corporation d’urgences santé is concerned with guaranteeing stability to its employees and, as such, will allow its new RMUs a guarantee of full-time hours provided that the RMUs express full availability full-time (day, evening, night) beyond the three (3) months following the training.
