Location: Quebec City or Montreal (with mobility between the two locations)
Schedule: Full-time, permanent position
Salary: $135,000 to $205,000 depending on experience

Your mandate

Reporting directly to the presidents, the Director of Operating Rooms is responsible for the planning, organization, performance, and strategic development of the surgical division. You will play a key role in maintaining clinical excellence, optimizing operations, and continuously expanding our service offerings in a highly competitive private sector environment.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Embody and promote the organization's mission, vision, and values within teams and operations;

  • Establish a sustainable performance culture based on accountability, excellence, rigor, and autonomy;

  • Structure and develop surgical services to support the organization's rapid growth;

  • Collaborate in proactively resolving issues strategic, particularly in the areas of ethics, health and safety, customer service, human resources, procurement, budget, and equipment;

  • Act as a strategic partner with operating room managers to identify performance issues and provide concrete and sustainable solutions;

  • Train, coach, and mobilize managers by promoting the adoption of best practices in surgical operations management;

  • Ensure smooth, constructive, and respectful communication with other departments, while cultivating interdisciplinary collaboration and team spirit.

Operational Management

  • Supervise all of clinical and administrative operations of operating rooms, ensuring efficient and rigorous management;

  • Develop, monitor, and adjust budgets, key performance indicators (KPIs), business plans, and strategic objectives in line with the organization's mission;

  • Optimize the use of human, material, and technological resources, with a view to efficiency, profitability, and quality of care;

  • In-depth analyze operational results, patient pathways, bottlenecks, and operating capacity to identify optimization levers and implement continuous improvement solutions;

  • Ensure strict compliance with ethical, safety, quality, and infection control standards, while meeting to our clients' high expectations.

Quality of Care, Continuous Improvement, and Compliance

  • Implement clinical best practices, Accreditation Canada standards, and the organization's internal policies;

  • Actively participate in quality audits and lead continuous improvement initiatives;

  • Ensure regulatory compliance and ongoing training for medical and nursing staff, with a constant focus on competence and safety;

  • Collaborate closely with legal and medical teams to address ethical issues with rigor and a sense of ethics;

  • Design and implement improvements to processes, procedures, equipment, and the physical layout of operating rooms, with the aim of optimizing safety, operational efficiency, and quality of care;

  • Develop, review, and standardize working methods specific to each operating room to enhance consistency and performance;

  • Drive the evolution of operational standards, processes, and practices, ensuring their alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices;

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret quality-related data, define concrete action plans, and mobilize the relevant teams around measurable improvement objectives.

 

Development of the service offering, financial management, and Budgetary

  • Evaluate the financial and operational viability of new specialties or surgical procedures, taking into account the organization's strategic positioning;

  • Ensure rigorous technical and financial monitoring with the presidents for all projects under their responsibility;

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise the deployment of new services, ensuring efficient execution and compliance with quality standards;

  • Promote close collaboration with clinical, medical, and laboratory departments to ensure intersectoral cohesion and optimal continuity of care;

  • Actively participate in the development of operating rooms, both strategically and and operational;

  • Analyze gross margins, costs per procedure, and performance ratios to inform budgetary and operational decisions;

  • Manage all operating room operating budgets, ensuring sound financial management and the achievement of economic targets.

  • Actively participate in the organization's decision-making bodies, contributing to the development of strategic directions and key decision-making;

  • Maintain strong, lasting, and trusting relationships with suppliers, external partners, and team members medical;

  • Negotiate, structure, and develop strategic business partnerships with equipment, supply, and service providers, with a focus on innovation, efficiency, and performance.

Profiles sought:

  • Excellent organizational skills and a keen sense of structure

  • Developed analytical mind and strong aptitude for solving complex problems

  • Exceptional interpersonal communication and listening skills

  • Mastery of time and priority management, with a strong focus on respecting deadlines

  • Autonomy, resourcefulness, and attention to detail in carrying out responsibilities

  • Ease of learning and the ability to quickly assimilate new information or practices

Required Skills

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or a related field (a (an asset)

  • Extensive knowledge of continuous improvement approaches (Lean, 5S, Kaizen, etc.)

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience managing large facilities (500 employees or more)

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in operating room performance management (an asset)

  • Demonstrated experience in growth management, multidisciplinary team leadership, and organizational transformation

  • Excellent command of French and English, both oral and written

  • Strong management skills financial and budgetary analysis, including gross margin and procedure cost analysis.

  • Proficiency in Excel and Office 365 tools

  • Knowledge of digital health tools (an asset)

  • High availability and mobility required between the Quebec City and Laval sites

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual compensation: $135,000 to $205,000, depending on experience;
  • 4 weeks of vacation upon starting the position;
